Alea Sabry

President | asabry@wisc.edu | she/her/hers

Alea is a senior majoring in Molecular and Cell Biology and Political Science. This past summer she had an internship as a Research and Health Policy Intern at the National Center for Health Research in Washington, DC. Alea has conducted research at Mayo Clinic as an Undergraduate Research Fellow studying the proteomics of breast and ovarian cancer and is currently a research assistant for the Department of Ob/Gyn and Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at UW. Additionally, Alea is an academic tutor through the UW PEOPLE Program, tutoring high school students in chemistry, psychology, biology, and calculus. She plans to take the MCAT in January of 2022 and apply to medical school in the 2022 cycle. Outside of AMSA, Alea likes to go on long walks around campus, do yoga, and spend way too much time on TikTok.

Landon Zimmerman

Treasurer | lzimmerman5@wisc.edu| he/him/his

 

 

Landon is a senior majoring in Biology and Spanish. This past summer he volunteered at our lady of hope clinic and took the MCAT. He has also done research through the UW Madison School of Medicine and Public Health in the Huttenlocher lab studying neutrophil and macrophages in zebrafish. Landon is also a camp counselor with the UW Madison chapter of Camp Kesem. He plans on applying for the 2022 cycle. Landon likes to ride his electric skateboard, play cards, spikeball, and volleyball with his friends.

Tyson Phan

Director of Program Development | nmphan@wisc.edu | he/him/his

Tyson is a junior majoring in Neurobiology and Psychology and getting a certificate in Disability Rights and Services. Some of his volunteering experiences include the Vietnam Health Project and Volunteering Solutions trip to Peru. Tyson is currently conducting research through the Berridge Lab of the Psychology Department on campus. He plans to take this MCAT soon and apply to medical school in the 2022 cycle. Other than AMSA, Tyson is on the board of Badger SPILL and Vietnam Health Project (VHP).

Annie Glassey

Social Trustee | glassey@wisc.edu | she/her/hers

Annie is a senior majoring in Biology in the L&S Honors Program and pursuing certificates for Environmental Studies and Biology Core Curriculum Honors. She is from Lindenhurst, Illinois. In addition to AMSA, Annie is conducting research and pursuing a Senior Honors Thesis in the Kimple Head and Neck Cancer Lab at WIMR, working as a CNA, and is a member of Women in Scientific Education and Research (WISER). In her free time, Annie enjoys going on walks around Madison, sitting at the terrace, yoga, and cooking.

Allison Tomes

Allison is a junior from Minnetrista, Minnesota who is majoring in Biochemistry and Spanish with certificates in global health and leadership. Outside of AMSA and classes, Allison volunteers with the HELP program at Meriter and works as a cycling instructor at the Nicholas Recreation Center. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family, traveling, shopping, and working out.

Scotty Hall

Scotty is a senior majoring in Biology and Management & Human Resources. He is currently a volunteer with the Red Cross. Scotty has had shadowing experiences at the Rogers Behavioral Health center. He plans to take the MCAT soon and apply to medical school in the 2023 cycle. Other than AMSA, Scotty is a project assistant in the UW Department of Emergency Medicine and loves watching and discussing movies.

Avery Peterson

Avery is a junior majoring in Biology and Microbiology and getting a certificate in Biology Core Curriculum. She currently is a volunteer with FH King Garden and hopes to start at Meriter this year. Avery is conducting research with an Image Processor in the Department of Surgery- UW Hospital. Up to this point, all of Avery’s shadowing experience consists of E-shadowing. She plans to take the MCAT next year and apply to medical school in the 2023 cycle. Avery currently works as a receptionist/social media coordinator for a local dermatology practice, as well as in AortaCore with the Department of Surgery at the UW Hospital. In her free time, she loves to stay active, listen to music, and binge watch Netflix series with her roommates.

Hannah Christianson

Advocacy Trustee | hlchristians@wisc.edu | she/her/hers

Hannah is a senior majoring in Microbiology & Life Sciences Communication. She volunteers at JustDane’s mentor program, with Badgers & Books Reaching program, and online for Crisis Text-Line. Hannah currently conducts research on an Ob/Gyn on a surgical site infection project and is beginning to work with a LSC professor on a Public Health project. She plans to take the MCAT in January of 2022 and apply to medical school in the 2023 cycle. Other than AMSA, Hannah works as an EMT at Paratech Ambulance Company and has previously worked as a phlebotomist. In her free time, Hannah likes to read, create pottery, and spend time outdoors.

Jacob Schleicher

Jacob is a junior majoring in Biochemistry and getting a certificate in Global Health. He is a volunteer with Lake Country Caring. Jacob currently conducts research on Tiny Earth: Dr. Westergaard Research Lab (Thrive4LifeWI Study). One of Jacob’s shadowing experiences includes an Orthopedic Surgeon at the Orthopedic Associates of Wisconsin. He is currently studying for the MCAT and plans to apply to medical school in the 2022 Cycle. Outside AMSA Jacob participates in intramurals and as a brand ambassador for Up & Up.

Brent Evan

Brent is a senior majoring in Chemistry and Biology and getting a certificate in Environmental Studies. He has previously conducted research about Vitamin A and will be starting research exploring the gas phase and water phase interactions in relation to the “like dissolves like” rule in the nathanson group this upcoming semester. Brent has experience working as a caregiver and is currently working as a tutor for GUTS in general chemistry, general biology and organic chemistry. He is also an advisor for VHP (Vietnam health project.) Brent plans to take his MCAT in Spring of 2022 as well as apply to medical school in the 2022 cycle. Outside of AMSA Brent enjoys tennis and disc golf.

Sindhu Shankar

Sindhu is a junior majoring in Microbiology and Economics. She volunteers at the Aurora in Kenosha, working in the roles of welcome staff and patient transport and will be a tutor with the PLA on campus for the upcoming year. Last year, Sindhu conducted research in an Entomologist Lab. This year, she will be working at the primate center on a team which aims to analyze the effects of estrogen on adipose cells. Some of her previous shadowing experiences include observing an Anesthesiologist, Ophthalmologist, Orthopedic Surgeon, and Gynecologist. Sindhu is currently studying for the MCAT and plans to apply to medical school in the 2022 cycle. Outside AMSA, Sindhu loves to bake, lots of recipes to share! 

Ruby Armstrong

Ruby is a junior double majoring in Evolutionary Biology and Psychology in the L&S Honors Program. She comes from a long line of badgers, and is from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Outside of AMSA, Ruby loves arts and crafts, and started her own business making jewelry. Additionally, she works in a psychology research lab. Ruby plans to take the MCAT in spring 2022 and apply to medical school in the 2022 cycle. She also works as an emergency room medical scribe at St. Mary’s hospital in Madison. Her favorite hobbies include showing pictures of her dogs, running, and designing logos. 

Thomas Montana

Thomas is a senior majoring in Microbiology. He has been the social trustee for AMSA for two years and is from Ely, Minnesota. Outside of AMSA, Thomas enjoys going to football games, volunteering with the HELP Program at Meriter Hospital, and socializing with AMSA members. He currently  works at the Brain Imaging Laboratory in the Waisman Center. Thomas is taking the MCAT in January and applying to medical school in the upcoming cycle. 

Lindsey Neumann

Lindsey is a junior majoring in Neurobiology and getting a certificate in Global Health. She currently works in Dr. Emborg's lab at the Primate Center researching Parkinson's disease. Lindsey plans to take the MCAT next summer and apply to medical school in the 2023 cycle. Outside of AMSA, she works as a Direct Care Specialist through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services,  providing care for an 11 year old with cerebral palsy and epilepsy. Some of Lindsey’s favorite hobbies include yoga, painting, and meditating.

Sophie Clark

Sophie is a senior double majoring in History and Biology with a certificate in Global Health. She is from Saint Paul, Minnesota, and planning on getting her Master’s in Public Health as well as her MD. She currently works in the UW Archives on a medical history research project, as a personal care attendant, and in an entomology lab on campus! Sophie took her MCAT in September 2021 and plans to apply to medical school sometime after the 2021 cycle. She loves being outside, reading and finding new coffee shops to try!

Xi(Chelsea)Chen

Xi (Chelsea) is a senior double majoring in Biochemistry and Spanish. She is originally from Beijing, China. Chelsea has volunteered at the UW hospital, American Red Cross, and Community Health Volunteers of Madison. Chelsea took her MCAT in July 2021 and plans to apply to medical school in the 2021 cycle. Outside of AMSA, she works as a Chemistry Lab Assistant and conducts research in the Cavagnero lab, specifically studying the thermodynamic stability of E. coli ribosome-bound nascent proteins. Her favorite hobbies include running, traveling (pre-COVID times...), baking, and spending time with family and friends.

Jonathan Bryan

Jonathan is a sophomore student from Appleton, Wisconsin, majoring in Neurobiology, Molecular and Cell Biology, and Psychology. He enjoys powerlifting and watching late night movies with friends. During his first year attending UW-Madison, he was a member of the Undergraduate Research Scholars Program, which helped him enter a lab through the Waisman Center. Jonathan plans to take the MCAT in Spring 2023 and plans to apply to medical school in the 2023 cycle. Over this past summer, he earned his Emergency Medical Technician licensure, volunteered in an Advocate Aurora Health system hospital, and co-instructed a Neuroscience Topics ALPs course.

Malia Land

Malia is a junior majoring in Nutritional Sciences. Outside of AMSA she is on the Justice, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion committee of the Department of Nutritional Sciences, volunteers in the Digestive Health unit at Meriter Hospital, and works as a RecWell Manager at the Nicholas Recreation Center. This past summer she worked full-time at a camp for children with developmental and physical disabilities through United Cerebral Palsy of Dane County. Her plan is to take 1-2 gap years to gain more life experience. Outside of her professional life Malia loves taking pictures on digital cameras, hanging out with friends, and just being in the moment.
